Rande was raised in Santa Clara County. When in college, she studied music and voice. She married and moved into the workforce and did not become involved with theatre again until 1989. Since then she has been active in many aspects of theatre primarily in production. Her interest in hair and make-up started shortly after her involvement with her family with a local theatre organization. Originally, it had started out as a way for the family to spend more time together; going to and from rehearsals and performances, but it quickly became a creative outlet for Rande as well.
Since then she has taken classes
in theatre make-up, wig styling, wig ventilation and is always willing
and excited to learn anything new that comes her way. She considers
each show that she works on as a different challenge and enjoys being able
to constantly stretch her creative boundaries.
Rande has worked with many
different theatre groups over the years. She started with local community
groups and then began working on the hair/make-up crew at American Musical
Theatre of San Jose where she met up with her mentors, Sharon Ridge and
Robin Church. She has enjoyed working both with Sharon and Robin
over the years, along with many of the other talented artists and designers.
In 2000, Rande embarked on her first opera design project, La Traviata, with West Bay Opera. She really enjoyed the experience and has been their Resident Hair & Make-up Designer since then. She has had the privilege of working with many wonderful design teams there and has welcomed the challenge that each new show offers her.
Over the course of the years she has worked on shows for American Musical Theater of San Jose, Theaterworks, Ballet San Jose, San Jose Stage Company, Lyric Theater, Lamplighters of San Francisco, Palo Alto Players, as well as touring companies, both union and non-union. She became a member of the Hair & Make-up Union, Local 706.
Aside from opera, Rande has now worked in a variety of theatre or performance venues both in musicals, straight plays and any other opportunities that arise. In addition to hair and make-up for theater, Rande has fun with bridal make-up, headshot photography and even hair styling for competitors at horse shows.
Currently, Rande has any number of shows that she is involved with and working on at any given time. She enjoys the ability to work with local groups large or small and looks forward to any opportunity to meet and work with new people.
She is the mother of two daughters,
Sabrina
and Samantha, both graduates
with a B.A in Theatre Arts. Her husband, Tim, is currently in the Master’s
Program in Theater at San Jose State University with an emphasis on teaching
and directing.
